New Concept for the Control of Rolling Mills

Major design steps / Focus of our work:

  1. Mathematical modelling and analysis of the nonlinear physical structure of the millstand, the roll gap, the hydraulic positioning system, the strip dynamics, coiler and drive dynamics using computer algebra (MAPLE V)

  2. Development of simulation models in MATLAB/SIMULINK

  3. Verification of the models by measured data

  4. Analysis of the performance of different nonlinear control design techniques (e.g. differential geometric methods, different nonlinear control concepts, energy shaping techniques, flatness based approaches)

  5. Implementation of the developed controllers
